Pros and Cons of Living in the USA. Dear reader, if you have arrived here surely it is because you are thinking of changing of airs or simply out of pure curiosity. In today’s article I will reveal what it is like to live in the United States and you will decide if it is the best place for your next destination.
Pros and Cons of Living in the USA.
Advantages of Immigrating to the United States
One of the good things you will have if you decide to move to the USA is that you will never get bored. It has the best tourist sites to visit; it has a large number of museums, beaches, mountains and amusement parks to spend the day. We also have to name the iconic sites such as the Empire State Building, the Hollywood Walk of Fame, the Statue of Liberty in New York, Disneyland World or the famous Las Vegas casinos.
The second advantage that we find in life in the United States is the variety that exists in everything. When you put the television you have so many channels that it is difficult that you do not find one that you do not like, when you go shopping you have everything you look for and the last thing to leave. I give you another example with sports, in South America and in Spain we have football as the main and almost only sport. In USA they have the best players in basketball, hockey, rugby, baseball and a lot of other sports. In addition, the atmosphere that is breathed in the stadiums is unique.
Surely you have heard the typical phrase that the United States is the country of opportunities, because I have to reaffirm that this is a truth like a temple. Everything there is more professional and it is easier to stand out in something. There are many people who have come to this country with one hand in front and another behind and effort have even managed to raise large companies.
Another very important thing that I want to comment on is the issue of education. While in other places teachers are very short and even a little clumsy, in the United States teachers are very aware of you and will always try to help in everything. This is as a general rule, it is clear that there are good teachers in other parts of the world and not so good in the USA. And we finish this section of advantages not without first mentioning the cultural diversity that exists. In recent times immigrants from all over the world have come to the USA, so you can learn about other customs, other ways of thinking.
Disadvantages of life in the United States
One of the reasons for not living in the United States is the weather. In the morning you can be dying of cold and that same day a few hours later you can have a suffocating heat. That makes many people sick especially when they are not yet used to these climate variations.
Another drawback of the USA is the customs they have in food. Everything they cook is frozen or microwaved, and fast food is the basis of their diet. You can come up with your idea that you are going to eat healthy and probably you will achieve it during the first months, but in the end you will end up going against the grain and join the junk food club.
One of the things that I wear worse because of my stinginess is the tip. Doing it is almost mandatory and sometimes they even charge you in the account. If you add the tip to that life there is very expensive you will surely have problems to make ends meet if you do not have a good salary.
Requirements to live in the United States
The green card of the United States, or also called Green Card, is a fundamental requirement if you want to live permanently in the USA. If you do not have it, your maximum stay in the country can only be a maximum of 6 months. The only ways to obtain it are:
- Marry an American of origin.
- Having signed an employment contract with a company: In this case you will only have the residence card for the duration of your contract.
- That you touch in the drawing of Green Cards: Every year the Government of the United States raffles 50,000 visas among the people who signed up for the draw.
- Invest 500,000 euros and have hired at least 2 Americans: The option for those who have more money.
Do you want to work in the United States?
If you want to work legally in the United States you must have a prior contract signed with a company before leaving for there. I would not recommend going to the adventure without a job because you’ll probably work illegally. The positive point you will find is that it is very well valued to be bilingual Spanish-English, as more and more Hispanics are living in this country. Salaries are very high in general, both for the most qualified jobs and for those that less. I hope you have enjoyed knowing what it is like to live in the United States.
